March in Boston Is Latest in ‘Slutwalk’ Crusade~ Associated Press
If everyone could spare a moment to tumblr bomb this video, there are some incredibly ignorant people spamming the comment section and I think they need a little enlightenment to what the slutwalk is about.
and that means that I’ll have significantly more time on my hands to really focus on this project. In case you haven’t already heard, the SlutWalk will be here in Chicago on June 4th. I’ll be there, scantily-clad, with a handful of people so far. I’m hoping to see that number increase dramatically before the walk.
This summer I will be getting in contact with various groups in the Chicagoland area to hopefully develop a chapter on Columbia College Chicago’s campus, which will act as a support group for our students. My friend Casey filled me in on the talk going on at Columbia revolving around the topic of possibly hiring an individual trained to counsel students on these issues. I’ll update you on any news I come across or progress.
As for right now, you can still help me raise awareness of sexual assault and abuse, not only in Chicago, but everywhere. I’ve still only received a handful of letters and I’m hoping that as more and more of you share Dear Arthur, more will come in. Please remember your letters can be signed as anonymous if you do not feel comfortable sharing your name. And remember that you do not have to be a survivor to share a story. I want to know what everyone feels about the issue of sexual violence on any level. Everyone’s words will be appreciated here.
Thank you for all of your support.
XOXO,
Bethany
Since a lot of folks on our FB page seem to have the misconception that SlutWalk Chicago is an event specifically for ‘dressing slutty,’ we just wanted to clarify one point here - we encourage folks to wear WHATEVER YOU LIKE to the event, whatever you feel comfortable in. If that’s provocative clothing, so be it. If it means you’re swathed head to toe, that’s cool too. You have the right to occupy public space without being harassed no matter what you wear!
